Strategies to prevent West Nile Virus (WNV) disease in humans can be divided into two broad categories: a) prevention of viral transmission and b) prevention of viral replication.

Unfortunately, according to the CDC, "No proven effective treatment or prophylaxis for WNV infection exists". Various vaccine, RNA inhibition and genetic strategies are being studied. So far none have demonstrated benefits which outweigh their side effects profile.
