Prevention


Strategies to prevent West Nile Virus (WNV) disease in humans can be divided into two broad catagories: a) prevention of viral transmission and b) prevention of viral replication.

A number of methods have been devised to inhibit the transmission of WNV. These include:

Unfortunately, according to the MMWR, "No proven effective treatment or prophylaxis for WNV infection exists". Various vaccine, RNA inhibition and genetic strategies are being studied. So far none have demonstrated benefits which outweigh their side effects profile.
