Adverse Events

An adverse event is any undesirable experience associated with the use of a medical product in a patient. According to the manufacturer of Viagra®, there are three common adverse events associated with sildenafil citrate:

• Headache (16%),
• Flushing (10%), and
• Dyspepsia (7%) occurred more frequently (17%) with the 100mg dose.

Other, less common, events include:

• Nasal congestion (4%),
• Urinary tract infection
• Abnormal vision changes (3%) occurred more frequently (11%) with the 100mg dose.,
• Diarrhea (3%),
• Dizziness (2%), and
• Rash (2%).

Serious but Rare Events

Cardiovascular: Erectile dysfunction is often associated with cardiovascular disease. Myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, ventricular arrhythmia, cerebrovascular hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack,
hypertension, subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhages, and pulmonary hemorrhage have all been reported following treatment with sildenafil citrate.

Urogenital: Priapism and hematuria have been reported following treatment with sildenafil citrate.

Special Senses: tinnitus, hearing loss, diplopia, temporary and permanent vision loss have been reported following treatment with sildenafil citrate.
