Gender
and Inhalant Use
A decade ago, inhalants were
considered a drug abused by males. According to the
following studies these demographics have changed. A 2004 study by Wu, Pilowsky, & Schlenger
reported that Inhalant abuse and dependence affected adolescents regardless
of gender. Additionally data presented by Beauvais, Wayman, Jumper-Thurman, Plested, & Helm
(2002) indicates that there was a continued increase of inhalant use among females
compared to males.
