Gender and Inhalant Use

A decade ago, inhalants were considered a drug abused by males. According to the following studies these demographics have changed. A 2004 study by Wu, Pilowsky, & Schlenger reported that Inhalant abuse and dependence affected adolescents regardless of gender. Additionally data presented by Beauvais, Wayman, Jumper-Thurman, Plested, & Helm (2002) indicates that there was a continued increase of inhalant use among females compared to males.
