Intervention

Intervening in cases of domestic violence involves both crisis intervention and efforts to enhance the long-range coping abilities of those involved. Medical attention to injuries and advocacy for safety are top priorities.

While nurses are not in a position to know what actions will provide safety for a victim, their role is to respect the victim’s autonomy and help her to obtain the interventions she feels she needs at the time.
