Intervening in cases of domestic violence involves both crisis intervention and efforts to enhance the long-range coping abilities of those involved. Medical attention to injuries and advocacy for safety are top priorities.
While nurses are not in
a position to know what actions will provide safety for a victim, their role
is to respect the victim’s autonomy and help her to obtain the interventions
she feels she needs at the time.
Intervention will be examined in the following four topics:
